Nina Dobrev Posted Photo in Bed With Fiance Shaun White Less Than a Week Before Their Split

Nina Dobrev and Shaun White canceled their engagement days after she shared a photo of them in bed together.

“Summer doesn’t officially end until September 22nd FYI 🌞,” Dobrev, 36, captioned an Instagram post on Saturday, September 5, which included highlights from the last few months including her getaways.

The social media post featured a selfie of Dobrev and White, 39, in bed. Dobrev’s upload came less than a week before Us Weekly confirmed their split after five years.

Dobrev and White originally sparked romance rumors in February 2020 and Us broke the news about them dating two months later. A source later told Us that Dobrev and White were committed to a future together.

“Nina has had a lot of relationships not work out in the past, but ever since meeting Shaun, you can tell she’s just really excited about how far this relationship has come,” the insider shared in April 2021. “They’re gradually taking steps to starting a future together.”

The pair often discussed how they navigated a long-distance relationship.

“We have a nice little system of how to stay in touch,” White shared with Us in October 2021. “Plane tickets are pretty much booked for any opportunity that we can go see one another. So, I know during the holiday break, we’re going to meet up, and we’re going to meet up again probably around Christmas time. Anything that happens in between, then I’ll jet over and see her. You just make it work.”

He added: “I think that’s the goal of it all and the key to it all is just making the time. [Nina’s] super organized and on top of it, so I give it to her. She always finds a way to make it happen.”

While White prepared for the 2022 Winter Olympics, Dobrev opened up about getting to watch the monumental moment.

“We’ll be anxiously watching from home and cheering him on. I’m very, very excited for him. I can’t wait,” she shared with Us in February 2022, before weighing in on White’s plans to end his Olympic career. “He’s had such an incredibly long and amazing, successful run of the sport. He knows when the time is to throw the hat in, and he’s decided that it’s now.”

Dobrev and White ultimately confirmed they were engaged after four years of dating.

“RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé 💍♾️,” Dobrev captioned photos of herself and White in front of a floral arch via Instagram in October 2024, to which White replied, “She said YES 💍♾️.”

A second insider told Us that Dobrev was “totally surprised,” with White adding, “They’re both wildly happy.”
