New York City Mayor Eric Adams offered a tepid response Monday night about the “possibility” his federal corruption case could get tossed.
A Fox News reporter caught up with Hizzoner as he was dining with supermarket mogul John Catsimatidis — just after news broke that President Trump’s Department of Justice directed the Southern District of New York to dismiss the historic indictment against Adams.
“We’re going to find out more information, I don’t have much now,” he said, according to footage posted on X.
Adams, 64, said he wanted to speak to his lawyer before commenting further.
“We were just notified of the possibility that the DOJ has communicated with the local US Attorney’s office here,” he said, adding. “I would like to speak to [my lawyer] first and get a better understanding of exactly what’s taking place now because right now I don’t have any information.
“As I’m sitting here calls are coming through, but we’re looking to find out what’s going on.”
The DOJ sided with Adams that the charges brought during the Biden administration were politically motivated because he spoke out against then-President Biden’s handling of the migrant crisis.
“You are directed, as authorized by the Attorney General, to dismiss the pending charges” against Adams, Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove wrote to the US Attorney of the Southern District of New York in a letter obtained by The Post.
Bove said that the charges have “improperly interfered” with Adams’ reelection bid with a crowded Democratic primary coming up in June and “unduly restricted” the mayor’s ability to fully focus on cracking down on violent crime and the flood of migrants in the Big Apple.
If the charges are dismissed, they could still be brought back at a later time.
Leading up to Monday’s bombshell, Adams had raced down to DC at least a couple times in hopes of being near Trump, including attending his inauguration. He also met with the Republican in Florida days before the 47th president was sworn in.
Adams was indicted in September on charges he accepted thousands of dollars in free or upgraded luxury travel as bribes from foreign nationals in exchange for political favors.
He has denied wrongdoing and claimed the criminal action was brought as political retribution over his criticism of Biden.
