Bring it on home, Outer Banks — one last time.

Co-creators and executive producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke revealed on Monday, November 4, that Netflix has renewed the teen adventure series for a fifth and final season. The trio confirmed the news via a “Dispatch to all Pogues” letter, which was shared via Instagram.

“Seven years ago, in the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage. That photo sparked an idea for a story of four best friends who only want to have a good time, all the time,” the letter began. “From this beginning we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting and friendship.”

The trio noted that at the time, it felt “impossible” that the show would go on to tell a five-season story, noting that season 4 was the “longest and hardest” but also “most rewarding” to produce. Season 4 part 1, which premiered last month, debuted on Netflix at No. 1 in the global top 10 English TV and has remained there since. The back half of season 4 is set to release on the streamer Thursday, November 7.

Outer Banks received a season 4 renewal days before new episodes debuted on Netflix — and the adventure is just getting started. In Monday’s letter, the Pate siblings and Burke revealed that the finale of season 4 will be a “feature length episode” that they believe is Outer Banks’ “best, most powerful episode” yet, noting, “We hope you feel the same way.”

The co-creators then shifted to what lies ahead of the series: “Now, with a little sadness, but also excitement, we’re putting Season Four behind us and are turning to Season Five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago.”

The letter ended by confirming that season 5 will be the last — and hopefully their “best” — season of all. “We hope you’ll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break,” they concluded.

The letter was signed “P4L,” meaning “Pogues For Life.”

Shortly after news broke, Chase Stokes, who stars as John B. on the series, took to social media to address the fans. “My hearts heavy writing this one. One last ride,” he wrote via Instagram alongside a copy of the “Dispatch” note. “Thank you to everybody who has tuned in these past 5 years. You’ve given us more than we could ever give back to you ❤️It’s always gonna be Pogues 4 Life. -JBR.”

Outer Banks, which premiered in April 2020, follows a North Carolina beach community divided into two subsets, Pogues and Kooks, who are both on a search for hidden treasure. The series stars Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Carlacia Grant, Drew Starkey and Austin North.
