The incident took place at Saint-Lazare train station on Monday evening. The man reportedly pulled out a knife and shouted “Allahu Akbar France is ruled by ISIS” after he was approached by two security officers for not wearing a face mask.
French media said the man was severely injured after being shot by security officers.
He was taken to the Georges-Clémenceau European hospital.
BFM TV reported that the man was hit twice in the chest and fell on the tracks.
Le Parisien said that police also used batons and tear gas.
The newspaper reported that the man was stopped between platforms 20 and 21.
An official source told Le Parisien that CCTV footage shows “an individual taking out a knife and threatening the crew”.
France’s state-owned railway company SNCF said in a statement: “The two agents used their service weapon to defend and neutralise him.

A spokesperson for Paris prosecutors said they had opened an investigation into attempted murder and promoting terrorism.
The 47-year-old French national has not been named but was carrying his identity card.
He is said to be known to the police for acts of violence but not to the intelligence services.
