Paulina Gretzky revealed her struggle with blindness during a podcast appearance earlier this year.
The 32-year-old model recorded an episode of “Pillows and Beer,“ a popular show hosted by Bravo stars Austen Kroll and Craig Conover. Kroll and Conover became close friends with Gretzky during a group trip to Aspen in January.
Before the hour-long interview began, Conover offered Gretzky a choice of drinks, including Sauvignon Blanc and Monster Rehab Tea.
“I don’t think I’ve had a Monster [Energy] since 2007,” Paulina joked before saying she needed to check the ingredients list on the label. “I get scared; they make me jittery.”
While struggling to check the ingredients list on the can, Gretzky nonchalantly revealed that she’s legally blind.
“Well, I’m legally blind, so give me a second to read this,’” Gretzky said.
Although this is the first time Paulina has mentioned her struggle with vision, childhood photos of her show she wore glasses.
The 32-year-old model is not eligible for Lasik eye surgery to correct the issue.
“So, I’m not a candidate for Lasik, unfortunately,” she revealed. “One out of ten blinks I can see; it’s very, very frustrating.”
The hour-long interview covers everything from her relationship with her fiance, golf superstar Dustin Johnson, to growing up with hockey legend Wayne Gretzky.
Gretzky, who just celebrated Johnson’s historic performance at the 43rd Ryder Cup this month, explained that her sight issue is occasionally a problem for her in social settings.
“A lot of people think I’m mean because I’m not saying ‘hi’ to them,” she said. “Truly, I cant see your face; it’s not an excuse; I really can’t see you.”
“The Summer House” stars joined Gretzky on a trip to Aspen earlier this year, enjoying downtime in the snow shortly afterJohnson won the Masters last November. When the pro golfer isn’t on the road or taking home titles, he’s spending time with his family.
“For me, golf was always the most important thing. And now, it’s Paulina and the kids,” Johnson said in an interview with Golfweek late last year.
The couple plans to tie the knot at Blackberry Farms in Tennessee sometime in 2022.
