A pickup truck driver was caught smiling after being called out for allegedly cutting off an elderly woman in a four-hour-long line of cars as residents waited to get back to their homes in the Palisades Fire zone.
Nick Clark, an independent creative director living in Los Angeles, posted the video of the altercation with the impatient driver on his Instagram on Saturday.
He is seen approaching the motorist, driving in a silver Chevy Silverado, and putting him on blast.
“Here’s the guy who just cut the little old lady off,” Clark says as he walks up to the pickup while pointing the camera at the smirking driver.
The driver, whose window is down, nods and grinds at Clark, at first staying silent.
“The officers have your Silverado clocked and they’re not going to let you in,” he says.
“Good luck,” the smirking, unidentified pickup driver replies. “Have a wonderful day.”
“You have a wonderful day,” Clark sarcastically snaps back.
The creative director then asks him if he wants to share his name on video — adding that he has 35,000 followers on YouTube.
“Hey, whatever, man. Good job,” the driver tells Clark. “You’ve never cut anybody off in LA?”
“I certainly didn’t in the middle of a pandemic and a fire,” Clark replies.
The driver then tells him that he was at a “stop light” before cutting the woman off, but Clark cuts him off before he can continue.
“You know how it works,” the director says. “Are you really that dumb? Are you really that stupid? I don’t believe it.”
The creative director then tells him he thinks he’s just “rich” and an “asshole” before the video ends.
Clark elaborated in the video’s caption that the driver “just tried to cut off a little old lady and her adult son while we’ve all been sitting in line for 4 hours trying to get to our homes in the #PalisadesFire zone.”
“This guy tried to skunk in front of her while she was out of her car looking for her son when he wandered off.”
Clark explained that before filming the altercation, he “politely called him out on his bs” before walking away to point him out to the police.
The creative director added that the fires have shown him “The best and the worst of humanity.”
“This guy thinks his pain is worth more than everyone else’s. Where did he learn that?” He questioned.
“He told me ‘he saw an opportunity.’ WTAF? Take care of each other out there. We’ve all got to do better by each other…”
Clark asked the public for help identifying the man in his post.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said about 150,000 people in the county remained under evacuation orders Sunday, and more than 700 residents are taking refuge in nine shelters.
The death toll from the still-raging Los Angeles wildfires has risen to 24 people, with at least 16 still missing, according to a tragic update from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner Sunday evening.
The majority of the victims, 16, were killed in the Eaton Fire, while eight were killed by the Palisades Fire — the two largest of the fires devouring the county.
With the new death toll, the Eaton Fire is now the fifth-deadliest wildfire in California’s history.
