The thing about cards is you can do everything right, but lady luck can still bite you.
During Tuesday night’s final table at the World Series of Poker, Joshua Remitio went all-in with an inferior hand against Ozgur Seclimis – and lived to tell about it.
Remitio had about $16 million in chips left with 9-10 of diamonds, while Seclimis had about $40 million and pocket kings – a significantly better hand.
Before the flop, Seclimis had about a 78 percent chance to win, while Remitio’s odds were about 21 percent (this doesn’t add up to 100 due to the chance of a tie). However, like a .210 hitter scratching out a base hit, Remitio drew two 10’s on the flop – giving him three of a kind to best Seclimis’ pair.
Both players were ultimately eliminated before the night was over. Seclimis finished fifth overall to win $1.8 million, and Remitio finished fourth to pocket $2.3 million.
The bad fortune on this hand cost Seclimis at least $500,000, and potentially a shot at much more money. The winner of the main event takes home $8 million — and glory.
After play concluded Tuesday, the WSOP was down to three players: Koray Aldemir, Jack Oliver and George Holmes.
