Ryan Seacrest agrees that anything can happen in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.

Before hosting Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on ABC, Seacrest, 50, appeared on Good Morning America to talk about the show’s traditions — including the moment someone ends up proposing in the crowd.

“Yes, that’s something that’s happened almost every single year,” he shared via People on Monday, December 30. “Some of it makes TV, some of it doesn’t, but people love that moment to say, ‘Will you be with me for the rest of our lives?’”

ABC correspondent Will Reeve, who proposed to longtime girlfriend Amanda Dubin in New York City last month, joked, “I should have done the proposal on New Year’s Eve with Ryan. Amanda would have said no.”

Seacrest jokingly replied, “There’s still time for me.”

Back in April, the Wheel of Fortune host and his longtime girlfriend Aubrey Paige broke up after three years together. Previously, Seacrest has been linked to Julianne Hough and Shayna Taylor.

In response to Seacrest’s joke on live TV, Reeve said, “You’ve got this, Ryan. We won’t rush you, though.”

Instead of focusing on engagements and proposals, Seacrest has his hands full as he hosts Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve for the 20th year in a row.

Featuring performances from Carrie Underwood, the Jonas Brothers, Thomas Rhett, Blake Shelton and Lenny Kravitz, the live event is expected to feature plenty of surprises. While Seacrest has handled the gig for two decades, he still gets excited to witness the ball drop in New York City.

“I’ll never forget that moment when Dick Clark said I want you to step in and take over and do this show every year,” he shared on Good Morning America before cohosting the primetime event with Rita Ora. “I look forward to it. I get excited every time we’re able to watch that ball drop.”

Seacrest admitted “you never know what’s going to happen” as temperatures drop and a million people gather together in Times Square to usher in a new year.

“In that moment, we’re all together,” he said. “Our differences don’t matter for about a minute or two at the start of the year. That’s something so rare and so significant and so special. It’s magical to watch.”

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest airs on ABC Tuesday, December 31, starting at 8 p.m. ET. The event will also be available to stream live on the iHeartRadio app.
