Country-wide thunderstorm alerts caused a slew of flights to be grounded at multiple major airports, with some lasting through Tuesday night in New York.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued ground stops for flights departing from JFK International Airport, Newark Liberty Airport, Baltimore/Washington International Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

Delays at Philadelphia International Airport and LaGuardia Airport are issued through Tuesday night, according to the FAA.

Flights at JFK and Newark were halted until at least 5:15 p.m., but it started to thunder in NYC shortly before 8 p.m.

Further down the East Coast, flights in Baltimore and Washington were stopped until 5:30 p.m.

All of the airports also have a ground delay lasting through Wednesday, according to the FAA.

At LaGuardia and JFK, wait times surpassed an hour and a half, according to the National Airspace System Status, complicating many travelers’ returns after the long 4th of July weekend.

The stall marks the second major flight kerfuffle at America’s airports in less than a month.

On June 30, a similar wave of thunderstorms grounded thousands of flights along the East Coast, backing up some airports for hours.

As of 8 p.m., 7,196 had been cancelled within, into, or out of the United States, according to FlightAware.

On top of that, more than 26,000 flights experienced delays.

Torrential rainfall is expected in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington, DC, on Thursday and Friday, which could spark even more flight complications later in the week.

Flash flood warnings are still active in parts of Texas, just days after the Guadalupe River flooded, including Austin and San Antonio, with more than 100 people killed in the deluge.

Meanwhile, severe thunderstorms are expected to hit the Mid-Atlantic, namely Georgia, Virginia and the Carolinas throughout the rest of the week.
