Sharon Osbourne revealed that her late husband Ozzy Osbourne shared touching comments about his fans prior to his death.
In an interview with Pollstar that was published on Tuesday, August 5, but took place on July 17, Sharon shared Ozzy’s remarks about his fans following Black Sabbath’s “Back to the Beginning” farewell concert. The gig, which took place in Birmingham, England, on July 5, marked Ozzy’s final performance.
“He turned around and he said to me that night, he said, ‘I had no idea that so many people liked me,’” Sharon, 72, reflected during the interview. “Ozzy’s always been in his own bubble.”
For her part, Sharon admitted she wasn’t surprised in the least that there was so much love and admiration for Ozzy from his fans.
“Oh my God, the metal fans are the most loyal fans in the world! When they’re a fan, you’ve got them for life. They don’t go anywhere,” she said.
The couple’s daughter, Kelly, 40, shared how special the final performance was to her dad, detailing her gratitude via an Instagram Story posted on July 5.
“I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who came to the show last night, [and] thank you to everybody who was involved in the show last night,” she wrote. “You have no idea what it did for my dad. It was one of the most magical experiences of my entire life, and if I keep talking, I’m probably going to end up crying again. So, that’s all I’ll say for now. Thank you.”
Ozzy died on July 22 from cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease, according to a death certificate obtained by The U.K.’s The Sun. He was 76.
Ozzy and Sharon had been married since 1982 and shared daughters Aimee, 41, Kelly and son Jack, 39. (Ozzy was also the father of daughter Jessica, 51, and son Louis, 49, with ex-wife Thelma Riley.)
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” Osbourne’s family said in a statement shared with Us Weekly at the time. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family’s privacy at this time.”
The heavy metal musician was laid to rest nearly one week later. Sharon and their children were among the mourners who paid their respects at a memorial held on the grounds of their family estate in England.
