Sophia Hutchins’ Cause of Death Deferred After Fatal Accident: Report

Sophia Hutchins’ cause of death has been delayed weeks after her fatal accident.

TMZ reported on Tuesday, July 15, that docs claim Hutchins’ cause of her death was deferred.

Hutchins — who was Caitlyn Jenner’s manager and longtime friend — died on July 2 in Malibu, California, following an ATV accident near the 75-year-old Olympian’s home. She was 29.

Hutchins was reportedly driving a 2013 Polaris four-wheeler on a road when she struck the bumper of a 2016 Mazda sedan, forcing her vehicle over the shoulder of the road and sending her nearly 350 feet down into a ravine. She was pronounced dead at the scene. (The two individuals in the Mazda were unharmed.)

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department sergeant Eduardo Saucedo shared new details about Hutchins’ fatal crash in a July 5 interview with the Daily Mail.

“It looks like she may have been speeding and rear-ended the other car, the other party, and then that caused her to veer to the right and go off the cliff,” Saucedo said. “It doesn’t seem like she was following them. I think she just came up on them and then hit the car. It looked like she tried to maneuver to go around it, but she was going too fast and just ended up clipping the rear end of that Mazda, causing her to veer off and go off the cliff there.”

Hutchins became friends with Jenner in 2015 amid the latter’s highly publicized gender transition. Hutchins, who was also a transgender woman, appeared on Jenner’s I Am Cait docuseries — which aired on E! from 2015 to 2016 — and managed her business dealings, engagements and philanthropic efforts.

Days after Hutchins’ shocking death, Jenner told the Daily Mail that she was experiencing “tough times” and did “not want to talk” about her friend’s fatal accident.

Despite sparking romance rumors over the years, Hutchins and Jenner maintained that their relationship was merely platonic. In a 2019 interview with The New York Times, Jenner described Hutchins as her “best friend, family and confidant.”

Meanwhile, Hutchins explained her bond with Jenner during a 2018 episode of “The Hidden Truth With Jim Breslo” podcast.

“We have so much in common; we see the world so similarly and we both are such a good match for each [other] because we challenge each other,” she said. “She challenges me in so many ways, has allowed me to grow in so many ways and I hope I challenge her to grow, and I think because we share so many of the same passions and views, it’s just a great match, a great partnership.”
