Taylor Swift has agreed to be the “flower girl” in Selena Gomez’s wedding to Benny Blanco.
A giddy Gomez, 32, announced her engagement to Blanco, 36, via Instagram on Wednesday, December 11, flashing her diamond ring and writing “forever begins now.. .”
Shortly afterward, Swift — Gomez’s longtime friend — surfaced in the comment section of her post.
“Yes I will be the flower girl,” the songstress wrote, triggering nearly 60,000 “likes” in the span of just 20 minutes.
Swift, 34, and Gomez have shared a close bond for more than 15 years. They originally crossed paths in 2008 on a double date with Joe Jonas and Nick Jonas, respectively.
“We actually dated the Jonas Brothers together! It was hysterical,” Gomez recalled during a 2017 radio interview. “It was amazing, because [Taylor] was the girl with the big curly hair and all the bracelets and the cowboy boots. And I was definitely up-and-coming, and we just clicked.”
Neither Swift nor Gomez found lasting love with Joe or Nick, but they found a supportive best friend in each other. The two women have often hyped up one another’s career achievements and shut down any trolls or feuds along the way.
“I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities,” Gomez told Rolling Stone in 2022. “My only friend in the industry really is Taylor, so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong. I felt the presence of everyone around me living full lives. I had this position, and I was really happy, but … was I? Do these materialistic things make me happy? I just didn’t like who I was, because I didn’t know who I was.”
In April 2023, the Golden Globe-nominated actress brought little sister Gracie to Swift’s blockbuster Eras Tour. The twosome sported their favorite respective Swiftie eras for the performance: Gomez dressed as Folklore for the event and Gracie — who was gifted a hat by the “All Too Well” artist during the show — rocked a purple Speak Now dress and ponytail.
“Thank you bestie for having me and my sissy transport into your mystical, euphoric and special world. Proud to know you! love you forever and always,” the Only Murders in the Building star penned via Instagram to her BFF.
Several months later, Gomez dropped her first new song in two years, titled “Single Soon.”
Swift, for her part, took to Instagram to praise the record, writing, “When [your] bestie is the bestest. Will be dancing to this forever methinks.”
The following year, Gomez and Swift were all smiles while posing for a photo at the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards. Cameras later caught the duo gossiping about the events of the night with Miles Teller’s wife, Keleigh Teller.
After the footage went viral, Gomez explained via Instagram that she “told Taylor about two of my friends who hooked up. Not that that’s [anyone’s] business.”
