Terrifying bodycam video shows the moment a hero Arizona cop managed to save the local fire captain’s daughter from burning alive in her car — as the trapped young woman frantically screamed, “Help me!”
The wild saga unfolded when Goodyear Police Officer Dakota Berry miraculously came across the young woman’s vehicle — already entirely engulfed in flames — after an interstate collision early Sunday morning, cops said.
Bodycam footage captured the cop sprinting towards the car as the woman, Asharie Cheatham, desperately honked the horn to try and get help.
“I stumbled across a vehicle fire on the way back to the city. Ended up hearing a car horn honking and immediately ran over to the driver’s side. At that time, I realized someone was alive inside of the vehicle,” Berry told a news conference.
The frightening clip shows the officer smashing through the window before grabbing hold of the woman’s bare feet to pull her out.
The cop then used a fire extinguisher to douse the flames on the victim’s hair.
“No matter what, I would’ve got them out. I wouldn’t let them stay in,” Berry said.
The young woman was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, but is expected to survive, cops said. The officer was also hospitalized for burns to his hands.
Three others, believed to be in the other vehicle, were also sent to the hospital in the wake of the fiery wreck.
It later emerged that the rescued woman is the daughter of Goodyear Fire Captain Simeon Cheatham, who said she has a “long journey of recovery” ahead.
“She is a remarkable young woman; courageous, determined and full of life,” Cheatham said in a statement. “Even in the face of unimaginable pain and challenge, her resilience shines through. Every day she inspires us with her strength and her will to heal.
“This road will not be easy, but she has never backed down from adversity,” he continued.
“With the continued outpouring of support from our community and with God’s grace, I have no doubt she will rise from this stronger than before. Please continue to keep her in your hearts and prayers as we walk this path with faith, love and hope.”
The cause of the crash wasn’t immediately known.
