A 10-year-old Texas girl was shot while she was sitting in her parents’ car on her way to school in a seemingly random attack allegedly carried out by a crazed driver.
Alisa Gates was rushed to the hospital after she suffered a gunshot wound to her stomach in what San Antonio cops described as a road rage shooting on Friday, according to WKRC.
Bryan Arceo, 41, has since been charged after allegedly firing the shot from his gray Nissan Murano, which ended up piercing the side of the Gates family van.
Arceo allegedly fired his gun after Alisa’s mom tried to warn him about a collision after he backed out of his driveway.
“My wife was on the horn, but she was on the horn no more than three seconds,” Alisa’s dad Jason told KSAT.
Alisa’s parents, who weren’t injured, asked their daughter if she had been shot, but they started to smell gunpowder.
“My wife looks at my daughter and says, ‘Hey, did you get shot?’ My daughter says, ‘No’ Then, I opened the door a little bit,” Jason said.
Arceo’s ex-wife, who was in his car, told cops she saw her former spouse aim his gun at the Gates’ car, according to an affidavit seen by KSAT. She also claimed he carries a silver and black gun.
A live 9mm round was found at the scene of the shooting.
Arceo tried to flee the scene before being arrested, according to KWTX.
Arceo has since been charged with three counts of aggravated assault for recklessly discharging a firearm and is also accused of endangering a child.
