Digital Tails Group (DTG), part of Bowmo, Inc., has worked with The Cabinet Shop (https://thecabinetshop.co.uk) to produce a detailed case study showcasing the successful launch of a 3D product configuration system, enabling customers to personalise cabinetry directly online.
The custom-built 3D configurator allows interactive visual design and automated pricing, fully integrated with The Cabinet Shop’s Shopify storefront. Cupboards were selected as the initial product category, forming the basis for future catalogue-wide expansion and planned enhancements such as AI-guided configuration.
From day one, the project focused on resolving key operational inefficiencies while building a sustainable digital ecosystem to support future growth.
Previously, customers needed to discuss specifications by email, relying heavily on employees for clarification. The new system enables real-time adjustments to size, style and materials with immediate visual previews and pricing transparency.
The design team once spent considerable time producing bespoke drawings for most enquiries. By automating standard configurations, the system reduces the drawing workload and allows designers to concentrate on advanced custom projects. This shift shortens the sales cycle and improves turnaround times.
Precise production documents are generated automatically, removing ambiguity between sales and manufacturing. A validation framework ensures that users cannot select incompatible features or dimensions.
The Cabinet Shop intends to expand the configurator into additional furniture categories such as living-room storage, wardrobes, dressing units and book shelving. DTG’s modular approach ensures additions can be made efficiently, without major redevelopment.
Instead of relying on a single configuration interface, the new system dynamically produces multiple pre-configured product variations, improving search engine reach and directing targeted customer groups to the most relevant options.
“With the configurator, customers can design their own cabinets in real time. This takes pressure off our designers, reduces back-and-forth communication, and speeds up the process.”
— Lewis Nichols, Founder of The Cabinet Shop
