At least three officers and one civilian have been hospitalized after a multi-vehicle car accident in Oakland, Calif., according to reports.
Two police cars belonging to the Bay Area Rapid Transit Police Department were part of a three car accident that occurred at 2:45 pm local time on Saturday near the West Oakland train station near Seventh Street and Mandela Parkway, KTVU reports.
“Several vehicle occupants sustained injuries during the collision,” an OPD spokesperson said. “Paramedic personnel responded to the scene to assist and transported the individuals to area hospitals for treatment.”
“It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision,” the statement added, the outlet reports.
The other vehicle involved in the accident with the two police vehicles was a medical supply van.
Eyewitnesses say they saw the police vehicles moving fast — not slowing down — in the moments leading up to the jarring collision, KTVU reports.
One witness describes the cops’ cars as moving “hella fast” before the accident.
Photos from the scene show a totaled police SUV which has a busted hood, broken windows, deployed airbags, and bent doors.
All four people who were injured were transported to area hospitals and remain there in unknown condition, according to KTVU.
