A trans woman who copped to slaughtering her parents tried to skip out on her sentencing in a Utah court because it would be too tough on her — as she revealed that she has converted to Islam, and made an excuse for the cold-blooded murders on Friday.

“If only I had gotten help this would have been preventable,” said Mia Bailey’s lawyer — reading a statement she wrote.

Bailey, 30, was handed a sentence of 25 years to life in prison on Friday, after the court heard emotional testimony from both her brothers, who say they fear for their lives since their sibling gunned down both their parents in 2024.

Prior to the sentencing, Bailey tried to skip the hearing, claiming she could have a mental breakdown from the stress of the hearing.

Her attorney, Ryan Stout, said Bailey had been previously diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, anxiety, depression, psychosis, possible bipolar with psychosis and schizophrenia.

“The most recent time she committed herself [to the hospital], she was discharged three days later, and 10 days later she murdered her parents,” Stout said during the hearing.

During her statement, she told the court she converted to Islam.

She also legally changed her name and sex about a year before the murders.

“Because of my religious beliefs as a Muslim, it would be appropriate to take my life for atonement for what I did,” said Bailey in the statement read by her attorney.

Bailey’s brother, Corey Bailey, told the court he believed Bailey wasn’t in the right mind the day she brutally gunned down her parents, and said he doesn’t wish harm on Bailey, but is afraid.

“What’s best for us and what’s best for Mia is probably staying in prison for as long as possible,” he said, addressing the judge.

Bailey gunned down her parents, Gail and Joseph Bailey, inside their Washington, Utah, home on June 18, 2024. While an overnight manhunt for Bailey ensued, family members fled their homes to other shelters, fearing for their safety, according to KSL TV.

Dustin, another sibling, described Mia’s “years of severe mental illness” leading up to the murders, while addressing the court.

“It was clear you were not safe or well,” Dustin Bailey said to his sibling, who stared at him while he read the statement.

Dustin also told the court that his mother constantly defended Mia throughout difficulties in school and advocated to get her the mental health care she needed.

“When Mia struggled, Gail’s response was not frustration or withdrawal. It was persistence,” said Dustin Bailey during his statement.

Bailey pleaded guilty in November to two aggravated murder charges and one count of aggravated assault, for trying to shoot her brother she attempted to shoot at another sibling who was in the house at the time of the murders. Bailey got two 25-year life sentences and a consecutive zero-to five-year term for the assault charge.

“We’ve lost our parents and we’ve lost a sibling in many ways as well. So either way, no matter what, we are losing as a family on this sentence,” said Corey Bailey during his statement.
