Travis Kelce is pumped about opening the 2025-2026 Kansas City Chiefs season in Brazil, but he isn’t looking forward to the potential heat.
“The season opener against the Chargers is on a Friday night in beautiful São Paulo, Brazil. Can’t wait to get down there and see all the Brazil fans and how they get rocking for some American football,” Travis, 35, said on the Wednesday, May 21, episode of the “New Heights” podcast.
His brother, Jason Kelce, went on to note, “Apparently September in São Paulo is not hot. So, we don’t have to worry about that. We were assured.”
The Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers will travel to South America for their first game of the NFL season on September 5. While Jason, 37, said some Brazilian fans were “under the impression that we don’t like international games,” the former Philadelphia Eagles player clarified that he and Travis “just don’t like the heat.”
Travis, who was wearing “two shirts” while filming the episode, attributed his struggles with warm weather to being a “furry son of a bitch.” He quipped, “Me and heat just don’t do well together. So, I apologize if it came off as if I’m not excited about this. I’m still excited, I’m just gonna be doing some wardrobe changes throughout the game.”
Earlier in the NFL schedule discussion, Travis emphasized his love for playing abroad. “Don’t get me wrong, I love playing at Arrowhead [Stadium], I love playing in America. But I’m down with at least one or two international games,” the tight end stated. “Get me out of this country. I wanna play in front of some new fans, man.”
The Chiefs will follow up the Brazil trip with their first home game of the season against the Eagles on September 14.
Travis has become famous for his sense of style — and he has also rocked several haircuts over the years, from his buzzed head to his current flowy locks. Last month, celebrity barber Vince Garcia shut down rumors that the athlete’s long hairstyle is due to a hair transplant.
“Nah, not at all man,” Garcia exclusively told Us Weekly. “That’s a full head of hair right there.”
He went on to gush about his friendship with Travis, who has sat in his barber’s chair for several years. “Throughout the years, he’ll come to my barbershop [or] he’ll come to my house and get cut. The majority of his commercials I’ve done with him,” Garcia shared. “He keeps me around to get him ready for an appearance or a TV show. Over the years of doing that consistently with him, it’s just like any relationship. The more you see each other, the more you grow personally. … He’s a great dude, man. A great friend, as well.”
Following rumors that Travis would retire after the 2024-2025 NFL season, ESPN’s Pat McAfee confirmed in February that the Chiefs player would return for another season. “My dawg!!! I’m coming back for sure,” McAfee, 38, read off a note from Travis on the February 26 episode of The Pat McAfee Show. “I’m gonna try to get to the best shape I’ve been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop. Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and how I got the guys ready for battle.”
Ahead of the upcoming season, Travis has been spending quality time with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, and enjoying the $20 million Florida mansion he’s currently renting.
