President Trump again raked libertarian-leaning Rep. Thomas Massie over the coals Tuesday, taunting his fellow Republican as a “loser” who “votes ‘NO!’ on everything” after the Kentuckian expressed openness to pulling legislation that would rein in the president’s war powers.
“Third Rate Congressman Thomas Massie, of the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky, a phenomenal State that I won all three times (by a lot!), keeps talking about how he is going to protect the Constitution, but he is actually very bad for the Constitution,” Trump sniped on Truth Social Tuesday.
The president has vowed to back a primary challenge against Massie ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Massie, 54, had panned Trump’s strikes on Iran as unconstitutional and has long vexed the president with his opposition to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in its current form.
The Kentucky Republican has also teamed up with Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) on a bipartisan war powers resolution to stop the US from getting involved in the Israel-Iran conflict.
But on Monday evening, after a cease-fire was announced but before it nearly collapsed after Israel and Iran exchanged additional fire, Massie expressed openness to backing out of the war powers resolution.
“I talked to the speaker [Mike Johnson] on the [House] floor just now and told him we wouldn’t push it if the cease-fire holds, so it’s really in their court,” Massie told reporters.
Massie caveated that he was taking a “wait and see” approach on the matter.
Trump’s grievances with Massie extend beyond his collaboration with Khanna.
“Why would anyone want to vote for a so-called ‘Congressman,’ a RINO, at best, who wants to raise your Taxes by 68%, which is what will happen if, ‘THE GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL’ doesn’t pass,” the president raged Tuesday. “He votes, ‘NO!’ on everything, because he thinks it makes him cool, but he’s not cool, he’s a LOSER!”
Massie has long shrugged off Trump’s broadsides.
“[President Trump] declared so much War on me today it should require an Act of Congress,” the Kentucky Republican quipped on X Sunday after the president lashed out at him.
Amid the onslaught, Massie taunted that Trump will likely lose his battle to unseat him.
“I’ve raised $120,000 in the last 24 hours,” the congressman crowed. “And ultimately, the president hates to lose. And I think what he’ll do probably is that time draws near, he’ll do some polling and see that he’s going to lose and maybe not get in the race.”
