This fact-check
We say: Count on Glenn Kessler, The Washington Post’s partisan opinion writer who pretends to be a neutral “fact checker,” to come to the Democrats’ aid yet again, this time over their plan to have banks send the IRS info about Americans’ bank accounts. It’s perfectly legit to consider this “spying,” but even if you don’t agree, who died and made Kessler chief arbiter of whether it’s a true or false fact? No surprise, of course, that CNN’s John Harwood (and Biden Chief of Staff Ronald Klain) chimed in to fuel the propaganda. Cameron Cawthorne is right: This is the media echo chamber at work.
This headline
We say: Even Silly Putty can’t stretch as far as this nonsensical New York magazine headline. Yes, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema has opposed the monster tax hikes Dems are pushing (including many that would hit all Americans, not just the wealthy) so they can spend trillions more, on top of the $5 trillion in “COVID relief” Washington has already pumped out. Yet how does that equate to being “bent on destroying” Joe Biden’s presidency? In fact, with all the disasters he’s produced in just nine months, Biden is destroying his presidency all by himself.

We say: Can’t the Gray Lady celebrate progress? The paper admits that “for the past five weeks, [COVID] case counts have remained low” among New York City public-school students — with the positivity rate at just 0.25 percent. Yet it can’t resist a bit of fearmongering: The number of kids tested is too low. Vaccinated students aren’t screened at all. Results can take up to three days. Blah, blah, blah. Please. There have been no outbreaks in the schools, and, indeed, the whole city (and the nation) has clearly turned the corner. Stop scaring people to get clicks and move on.
This tweet
We say: When the State Department (charged with leading US foreign policy and helping to safeguard national security) is tweeting about what pronouns to use to avoid offending people, you know the country is in trouble. State’s tweet came just days after China test-fired a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile, Russia reported intercepting two US jets over the Black Sea and bombers killed scores of innocents in places like Syria and Afghanistan. No matter: Americans need to be sensitive about their pronouns. (Yikes!)
