Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig have announced their engagement one month after their former spouses, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, got married.
“We’re very grateful and hopeful,” Shue, 59, told People about finding love with Fiebig, 49, in the aftermath of their respective splits from Robach, 53, and Holmes, 49. “I don’t know how it happened, but there’s a happy ending.”
Us confirmed earlier this month that Robach and Holmes tied the knot in a private wedding in Arkansas on September 19.
The foursome originally made headlines in November 2022 when Robach and Holmes, who were then cohosts on GMA3, were spotted getting cozy outside of the office. Robach was still married to Shue at the time, and Holmes was married to Fiebig.
Us broke the news in January 2023 that Robach and Holmes were officially axed from ABC, and the network later confirmed their departures from GMA3. The couple eventually broke their silence about the timeline of their romance.
“To be clear, we were outed as being in a relationship, but everyone else thought we were being outed as adulterers — being outed as cheating on our spouses — and it wasn’t the case because the odd thing is, the day those pictures were taken and the day that article was released, we both at that point were in divorce proceedings,” Holmes said on their “Amy and T.J.” podcast in December 2023.
Robach, meanwhile, claimed her marriage to Shue was over before she started dating Holmes.
“We had attorneys, mediators, we were in the middle of divorces,” she shared at the time. “We thought we were protecting our children and our families and we thought we had time, and we thought we had a right to privacy and maybe that was foolish and silly.”
While reflecting on his next chapter and his work with the grassroots initiative The Forum, Shue made a rare comment about the end of his relationship with Robach. “It’s one thing to work on projects that you think can help people and change the world,” he told People. “The most important project is your family and building a foundation for your kids and creating a home and showing them a loving relationship they can see and experience.”
The actor admitted he had to “accept” his own part in his marriage “not working out.”
“And in not understanding myself well enough and not understanding what matters in a relationship well enough to find the right person for me, and that has been an extraordinary gift,” he said. “Again, I don’t know how it happened, but I can say I’m grateful.”
He continued: “I had to grow through a lot of pain and a lot of struggle and a lot of humility. I think the magic of love is when you go from a need to giving.”
Looking ahead, Shue shared his excitement about his future with Fiebig, saying, “You don’t know how you meet the person who’s right for you. It just happened. And you can say how it’s just this kind of freak luck that this is how you ended up getting to know that person in a way that would allow you to reveal yourself and for her to reveal herself. And this just happened to be a circumstance that allowed for that. I don’t think there was anything other than this just happened to be our way of getting to know each other and being able to share ourselves with each other in a time where we both needed a friend.”
