Burger King fans have crowned the nuggets that reign supreme.
For the first time since 2011, BK put crown-shaped nuggets back on the menu after years of customers asking for them to return, adding them to their new summer menu.
Customers can purchase them standalone as an 8-piece order for $3.49 or as part of the King Jr. Meal for $3.99, which includes a side and a drink.
Burger King is also partnering with Crayola to have the King Jr. Meal include a 4-pack of Crayola crayons with a colorable crown and meal bag. The Crayola-themed meal deal launches on Tues. June 9, and is available nationwide.
“We’ve been committed to creating awesome experiences for the whole family and listening to our Guests, and bringing back our Crown Nuggets allows us to do both of those things,” announced Joel Yashinsky, Burger King’s Chief Marketing Officer.
While customers have been asking for the return of the crown-shaped nuggets, they also want the old recipe, which multiple Reddit users claim was different from the original nuggets.
“I’m concerningly optimistic,” one Reddit user wrote. “I want to believe they’re bringing back the old recipe, but the cynic in me says they probably just stamped the old nuggets in a different shape.” Multiple users agree, hoping BK uses the same recipe from 2011, which was reputedly spicier with more black pepper.
The crown-shaped nuggets are just one of the many menu items that BK fans are urging to return. Multiple other Reddit users have said they would rather the fast food chain bring back their original chicken tenders, which disappeared from most US menus in 2012.
Another Instagram user gave a crown-nugget review and said she understands why there were petitions to bring the crown-nuggets back, saying the fun-shaped nibbles are “far superior” to regular nuggets thanks to better breading on the white meat.
With crown nuggets available until supplies last, Burger King is committed to bringing “more fun and interaction to mealtime for guests of all ages,” according to Yashinsky.
Whether or not BK fanatics are satisfied with the nuggets’ return will lie more in their taste than their whimsical shape.
