Cam Newton’s Family Includes 9 Kids: A Guide to His Children and Their Mothers

Former NFL star Cam Newton loves his role as a father.

“Fatherhood has been great. … I’m not as bad as I thought I was!” Newton joked in a 2017 interview with Yahoo! Entertainment. “It’s something that a person can never really prep for, but, for me, I just want to be available and it’s helped me be a better man.”

The athlete is the biological dad to seven children, but has taken on a parenting role for two of his ex-girlfriends’ kids from previous relationships. Newton and girlfriend Jasmin Brown welcomed their second child, his ninth, in 2025.

Kia Proctor

Newton shares four children with ex-girlfriend Proctor. The athlete also helped raise her eldest daughter, Shakira — born in February 2007 — whom she welcomed in a prior relationship. (Newton referred to Shakira as his “first child” in a 2017 Instagram post, which has since been deleted.)

The former NFL star and Proctor split in 2020, after she discovered that he was unfaithful.

“I was never married but the relationship, I thought it was going toward marriage and then my partner at the time had an outside baby,” Proctor shared in a September 2024 YouTube video, seemingly alluding to Newton. “He had a baby outside of our relationship that I was not OK with.”

She continued, “We were not married so I’m like I’m not about to deal with this because I thought this — what we had — was something way more special than the way you’re treating it and I felt like I had no choice but to leave. I had to choose me and my kids over what he was about to put me through.”

Newton’s first child with Proctor, a son named Chosen, was born in December 2015. The athlete wrote a letter to his eldest son, which was published by The Players Tribune in January 2017.

“Don’t be like me, son, Be better than me,” Newton wrote, in part. “And create your own inspiration. So, you won’t expect something from nothing, just hard work and determination.”

Newton and Proctor expanded their family in July 2018 with the birth of their third child together, a son named Camidas.

Newton appeared to address his relationship with Shaw as a “humanistic mistake,” which led him to fathering a child outside of his relationship with Proctor.

“My longtime girlfriend at the time [Proctor], we had a family. And I made a mistake, I hurt her, and I jeopardized our family at that time, and I had a child outside of our relationship,” he said on “The Pivot” podcast in 2022. “When Caesar Lorenzo Newton was born, I then stopped caring [what other people thought], because I could only be the best person that I could be.”

Aside from the child they share together, Shaw is also the mother to son Jaden, born in February 2006, from a previous relationship.

Jasmin Brown

Brown announced in October 2023 that she was pregnant. Her daughter with Newton, whose name has yet to be revealed, was born in February 2024.

“I proudly say I have 8 children. Six biologically through me. And I don’t believe in stepchildren,” Newton said during the “Club Shay Shay” podcast in April 2024. “What my biological kids get, everybody gets. I don’t have no favorites. I’m raising kings and queens.”

A little more than one year after giving birth to their baby girl, Brown announced that she was pregnant with Newton’s ninth child.

“Feeling ALL the Love, kicks and elbows,” she captioned a May 2025 Instagram post, celebrating Mother’s Day and revealing a baby bump. “Cheers to our growing tribe.” Newton confirmed in October 2025 that their son had arrived.

Brown and Newton welcomed their first baby, a girl, in February 2024. They have yet to publicly share her name.

“You spice up my life and give me a reason to keep evolving and bettering myself because I know you are watching me with those big sweet eyes that stare into my soul everyday. Your laugh makes any stress I may feel just melt away,” Brown wrote via Instagram on her daughter’s first birthday in February 2025. “You are EVERYTHING to me. I cannot believe you’re mine. I am so excited to do life with you and continue to learn you as I learn myself. CHEERS TO THE DAY WE MET!!! Mommy loves you downnnn. Happy birthday to my sweet sweet Pisces girl.”

“He’s already here,” Newton announced in Us Weekly’s exclusive look at his October 2025 appearance on the Tamron Hall Show, confirming that his and Brown’s baby boy had arrived. The couple have opted to keep their son’s name private.
