Conjoined Twins Carmen and Lupita Andrade Reveal How They Navigate Intimate Moments: ‘I Have Headphones’

Carmen Andrade and Lupita Andrade are offering an honest look at how they balance intimacy and sisterhood as 25-year-old conjoined twins — including Carmen’s marriage to husband Daniel McCormack.

In a rare confession, Carmen said the key to navigating private moments is communication.

She explained to People during an interview published on Monday, September 22, that in situations where Lupita — who identifies as asexual — is not comfortable with a private exchange between herself and Daniel, such as cuddling or a conversation, “We just respect that.”

Lupita, for her part, said that she has found her own ways to respect their boundaries and distract herself. “I have headphones and a phone. I don’t care,” she told the outlet.

Carmen and Daniel, 28, initially formed a connection on the dating app Hinge in 2020, and later took their relationship to the next step by tying the knot in New Milford, Connecticut, in October 2024.

“I think there’s a certain societal expectation that there needs to be affection the entire time within a relationship,” Carmen explained, noting, “All we do is joke around a lot of the time.”

Lupita clarified that her connection with Daniel, 28, is strictly platonic and familial, sharing that she doesn’t “like being asked if I am ever going to love [Daniel].”

“I love him as a brother,” she reiterated. “That’s about it.”

Daniel also spoke out about his relationship with Carmen, which has been under the microscope, admitting that sometimes questions about their dynamic can cross the line.

“People are obsessed with sex, you know? And it is just like, frankly, it’s none of your f***ing business,” he told the outlet. “I don’t understand why people need to know about my private parts in order [to] humanize us,” Carmen chimed in.

Carmen and Lupita’s story has captivated the world as doctors initially said they only had three days to live when they were born in Mexico, each with a heart, a set of arms, a set of lungs and a stomach. They do, however, share some ribs, a circulatory system, as well as their digestive and reproductive systems.

After Carmen met Daniel, she gushed about their strong bond to TODAY.com and said in 2023 that she knew “right off the bat” that he was a good match as he didn’t lead with comments about her condition. Plus, she felt “calm” on the way to see him.

As for whether they plan to expand their family and have kids of their own one day, the couple said in their latest interview that it was not in the cards for them.

“No kids, never plan on it,” Daniel shared. “I kind of like the aunt/uncle idea of, you know, it’s like rent a kid, you know, you get to give them back at the end of the day.”

Carmen agreed, admitting, “I never saw myself being a parent.”
