Danica McKellar‘s holiday season just got infinitely more exciting courtesy of her new Great American Media movie, The Greatest Christmas Gift.

“This is a beautiful story,” McKellar, 51, exclusively tells Us about the new film, premiering across the world on Great American Pure Flix on Saturday, November 29. (It will also air on Great American Family that same day and GFAM+.)

The actress reveals that fans may recognize the plot from The Gift of the Magi, written by O. Henry in 1905.

In the original story, McKellar recounts, “A couple loves each other so much that they give up their most prized possession in order to give their spouse what they really wanted for Christmas. But the problem is that when they give up their most prized possession, it renders mute the gift that their spouse gave them.”

In The Gift of the Magi, the woman cuts off her hair and sells it to buy her husband a chain for his watch, while the man sells the watch his grandfather gave him to buy his wife a comb for her beautiful hair.

“This story is inspired by that [with] different items,” McKellar says of the 2026 holiday feature from Great American.

According to the network, McKellar’s version of the classic tale focuses on a music teacher named Emma Harper (McKellar) and her fiancé Caleb Bennett (Matthew Marsden) as they prepare “for a cherished Christmas wedding when an unexpected setback threatens the future they’ve carefully planned.”

As the queen of Christmas movies, Candace Cameron Bure has a way of making every season feel like the holidays. This year, the actress is bringing the festive cheer even earlier, announcing on Friday, March 13, that her next seasonal film for Great American Family will be titled One More Christmas. “One More Christmas is […]

The logline reads, “As their small-town rallies around them and Christmas draws near, the couple discovers that the greatest gifts are not found in perfect circumstances, but in steadfast faith, selfless love, and a community that reminds them hope is always worth believing in.”

“This is the first time that I’ve done a Christmas movie where I was already with my costar, like, we were already together,” McKellar tells Us. “We’re fiancés in this. Of course, we get married at the end, and it’s [a] really beautiful ceremony. It’s a different kind of movie for me.”

The actress admits that while she can’t give away “too much” about how Emma and Caleb overcome their setbacks and make it down the aisle, she says the “tragedy of The Gift of the Magi is not played so much as a tragedy in this movie.”

McKellar reveals, “You will still feel all warm and fuzzy and happy at the end, and that’s because the community comes together.”

The Wonder Years alum notes that fans are in store for a “sentimental and really sweet and heartwarming” story with The Greatest Christmas Gift.

McKellar explains that the happily ever after viewers want won’t come without a little “conflict.”

“There is conflict in these movies. The difference is that the characters … they all have hope, and are leaning on each other, and want to be buoyant about it,” she tells Us. “There’s a sense of hope in every problem. You’re never going to see a character get depressed and stay depressed.”

McKellar continues, “They might be sad, but if they are, they’re yearning for more, and they’re trying to pull themselves up and figure it out. And that’s what we would get to see in The Greatest Christmas Gift, is that spirit that makes us feel good and gives us options of how to live our lives in a way where things don’t have to get us down so much.”

Like the movie itself, McKellar is full of gifts this upcoming holiday season, telling Us that she’s starring in two Christmas movies for Great American.

While The Wonder Years’ Winnie Cooper was everyone’s favorite neighbor, actress Danica McKellar definitely felt growing pains once the show wrapped. “When I was a teenager, right after the show, I was super ready for everyone to let go of that character and move on. I wanted to move on in my life,” McKellar, 48, exclusively […]

She shares that The Greatest Christmas Gift marks her 14th Christmas movie, following The Christmas Yes List, which she filmed earlier this summer for Great American.

The Christmas Yes List is super fun. It’s a comedy. It’s a true rom com,” McKellar exclusively tells Us, noting that after her character fails to get a promotion her boss challenges her to undergo “rejection therapy.”

She explains, “I have to get 10 strangers to tell me ‘no’ before Christmas,” one of which is Sam Page’s character, who McKellar teases is “super agreeable.”

“I keep asking him more and more ridiculous things, and he keeps saying ‘yes.’ What [you] don’t realize [is] that he’s on a mission himself to say ‘yes’ more,” she reveals. “So I’m on this mission to just say no, and he keeps saying yes, and it’s adorable.”

McKellar adds that the movie is “really fun” and “totally different” from The Greatest Christmas Gift — but fans can watch both this holiday season as part of Great American Christmas 2026.

The Greatest Christmas Gift premieres worldwide on Great American Pure Flix Sunday, November 29, followed by Great American Family that same day at 8 p.m. ET. It will also be available to stream on GFAM+. The Christmas Yes List’s premiere date has not been announced.
