LaToya Malcolm, who competed to be Miss Universe Jamaica, has died at age 35.
“🕊️ In Loving Memory of LaToya Malcolm🤍,” the pageant franchise announced via Instagram on Saturday, July 18. “We mourn the passing of MUJ alumna LaToya Malcolm, who proudly competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica Competition.”
The tribute continued, “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and loved ones. Rest peacefully, LaToya. You will never be forgotten. 🤍🕊️.”
No details about Malcolm’s death were revealed.
The current Miss Jamaica, Gabrielle Henry, paid tribute to Malcolm on social media.
“After many years of experiencing loss and hardship, I’ve learnt the deep relevance of pausing and reflecting on the lives of those who lived fully, unapologetically and with great passion. To hear of Laloya’s passing is a great loss to her family and the wider community, Jamaica, her impact will always be remembered and her voice will not be forgotten,” Henry, 29, wrote via her Instagram Story on Sunday, July 19. “Wishing her family my deepest condolences. May she rest in peace.”
Malcolm was best known for being a finalist for Miss Jamaica in 2024. While Rachel Silvera ultimately took the crown, Malcolm won the title of Miss Jamaica Bikini International. After receiving the award, Malcolm dedicated the honor to her late father.
“My beloved father, Mr. Malcolm, this win was for you,” she wrote via Instagram in August 2024. “Your one and only daughter continues to make you proud. I know you’re smiling down on me from heaven 🕊️💙.”
Earlier this year, Malcolm showed her support at the Miss Jamaica Bikini International 2026 competition where Suzan Dowdie was crowned the winner.
“Congratulations again ladies, well done to the new winner of the coveted award Miss Jamaica Bikini International 2026,” she wrote via Instagram in April alongside pics from the event. “All the best on your journey Susan🙏🏽👏🏽. I’m so excited for the winner and top four ladies.”
In addition to competing in beauty pageants, Malcolm was a television host, actress and dance coach. Earlier this month, Malcolm made an appearance on the morning show Smile Jamaica for a dance segment. The beauty queen taught hosts Neville “Bertis” Bell and Simone Clarke-Cooper some moves for this summer.
