The girlfriend of former NHL player Brendan Lemieux, Brookie, reacted to the shocking death of his father, hockey icon Claude Lemieux.
“We love you so,” Brookie shared via her Instagram Story on Thursday, May 28, alongside a photo of Claude holding Brookie and Brendan’s son, Luc, who was born in March 2025.
Brookie said Claude was her son’s “favorite person in the world” and shared another photo from a recent golf trip.
“We will miss you forever 🤍,” Brookie wrote via her Story, sharing the same photo of Claude, Brendan, 30, and Luc that her boyfriend posted via Instagram on Thursday.
“I love you dad!” Brendan, who played seven seasons in the NHL, wrote on social media shortly after news of his father’s death. “My son’s favorite person is going to watch from above for a while. We will see you ♥️.”
It is not clear how long Brookie and Brendan have been together, but the couple took a trip to the Dolomites in Italy in February 2025, the month before they welcomed their son, which Brookie shared via Instagram.
Claude’s body was found by one of his sons early Thursday morning after an apparent suicide. He was 60.
The late NHL legend is also survived by his wife, Deborah, sons Christopher and Michael and daughter Claudia.
Authorities have not revealed which of Claude’s sons located his body in the warehouse of a furniture store the family owned in Florida.
Lemieux played 21 seasons in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Colorado Avalanche, Phoenix Coyotes, Dallas Stars and Jose Sharks.
Over the course of his career, Lemieux won four Stanley Cups and racked up 379 goals to go along with his 1,777 penalty minutes.
Lemieux last appeared in public on Monday, May 25, acting as the torch bearer for the Canadiens before Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Carolina Hurricanes.
“Today is a dark day for the Canadiens family and the entire hockey community. I wish to express my most sincere and deepest condolences to Claude’s family and loved ones,” Canadiens president Geoff Molson said in a statement on Thursday. “A fierce competitor who rose to the occasion in big moments, Claude was a relentless, courageous, and tenacious player who led the team to the highest honors. He embodied the very essence of being a Montreal Canadiens player.”
He continued, “Today we mourn the untimely passing of one of our champions. Our thoughts are with his family on this difficult day.”
