Gold (GC=F) December futures opened at $4,324.40 per troy ounce on Thursday, September 24, 2026, up just 0.1% compared to Wednesday’s closing price. The price of gold fell this morning, trading at $4,293.20 as of 7:04 a.m. ET.
Multiple factors are pressuring gold prices lower this morning, and most of them stem from mounting inflation concerns.
A rising dollar index (DX-Y.NYB), Treasury yields at their highest levels since 2007, stalling negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, President Trump’s comments earlier in the week that he could “annihilate” Iran, Brent crude (BZ=F) prices over $104 this morning, hawkish comments from Fed policymakers, and reports that the U.S. is considering a diesel export ban all have contributed to the rising expectation that the Fed isn’t done raising rates this year to help control rising prices driven by this swirl of market influences.
Gold’s current year-over-year price gain of 13.9% is the smallest margin we have seen since tracking gold prices for more than one year. Gold prices and oil prices have had an inverse relationship since the war in Iran began, and that diverging price relationship is expected to continue.
