If you mess with Hilary Duff’s friends, you’ll evidently pay for it.
“This guy was doing my friend real dirty and we were hitting the bottle,” Duff, 39, revealed in an interview with Billboard published on Tuesday, November 3. “We were spicy and we went and bought the cheapest, grossest can of wieners and tuna and we just had a little field day on his front lawn.”
Although the “Come Clean” singer didn’t name the slighted friend, she did expand on what her girls’ nights would often entail before she had children.
“I’m, like, spicy, so my spicy nights [are] kind of evil,” she explained, adding that the prank occurred during her “late teen-hood.”
Duff shares three daughters — Banks, 8, Mae, 5, and Townes, 2 — with her husband, Matthew Koma, as well as son Luca, 14, with her ex Mike Comrie.
Her comments come after recently jetting away to Mexico with a group of friends for some downtime, including Mandy Moore, What’s Cooking Gabby author Gaby Dalkin, makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan Fisher, skincare professional Whitney Wagner Hartley, artist Amanda Lillywhite, Better Babies founder Janice Gott and influencer Haylee Christine.
“The group chat made it to the jungle,” the actress captioned an October 10 Instagram carousel that showed the celebrity mom friends lapping up luxury throughout One&Only Mandarina resort, which is located in the coastal rainforest of Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit.
In several snaps, Duff was seen rocking a high-cut yellow one-piece, going between sipping on coconuts by the water and playing mahjong with her friends.
The girls’ getaway comes less than a year after a former member of Duff’s mom group, Ashley Tisdale French, penned an essay for New York Magazine’s The Cut titled “Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group.” (Tisdale French, 41, shares daughters Jupiter, 5, and Emerson, 2, with husband Christopher French.)
The essay attracted headlines after Tisdale French alleged that she felt “frozen out” of the mom group and wasn’t invited to multiple get togethers.
“I told myself it was all in my head, and it wasn’t a big deal,” she wrote in January. “And yet, I could sense a growing distance between me and the other members of the group.”
While Tisdale French did not name anybody in the essay, social media users speculated that Duff and Moore, 42, were among the moms she had referred to.
Duff later addressed the drama during an appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “It sucks to read something that’s not true, and it sucks on behalf of six women and all of their lives,” the singer told host Alex Cooper during the February 25 episode. “I felt really sad. I honestly felt really sad. I was pretty, pretty taken aback and felt just sad.”
