If You Have to Watch 1 Hulu Show in July 2025, Stream This One Now

When Community premiered on NBC in 2009, few could have predicted that it would go on to become a beloved cult classic sitcom about a study group that became a found family.

Community inspired a level of loyalty from its fans that’s rare for any series to achieve, and it’s our pick for the one Hulu show that you have to watch in July.

This isn’t the first time that Community‘s six-season run has streamed on Hulu, but the 10 years since the show’s conclusion haven’t diminished our enthusiasm for the series.

And there’s no better time to revisit Community than the present, especially with 110 episodes available to be binged.

‘Community’ Featured Breakout Roles for Several Cast Members

When Community debuted on NBC, the most well-known cast member was Saturday Night Live veteran Chevy Chase. Joel McHale was still hosting The Soup on E! when he landed the leading role as former lawyer Jeff Winger. Community went a long way towards establishing McHale as a leading actor, and he wasn’t the only one who broke out on the show.

Donald Glover,  Alison Brie, Ken Jeong and Gillian Jacobs also emerged as larger stars throughout the series, while the profiles of Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown and Jim Rash were elevated as well. In 2025, that’s an all-star cast, and that’s one of the reasons why it’s been so hard to get the actors back together.

The Episodes Are Wildly Inventive

Series creator Dan Harmon and the rest of Community‘s writers didn’t let the show’s community college setting hold them back. During the first season, the stories veered from a more realistic tone towards an absurd brand of comedy that gave the show a great deal of flexibility. That allowed the creative team to spoof other genres, including westerns, war movies, fantasy adventures and more.

Community‘s wilder episodes were also the reason why Joe and Anthony Russo were recruited by Marvel to direct several MCU movies. The Russos brought a real cinematic flair to their episodes that made the stories even funnier.

‘Community’ Is a Comedy With a Heart

Perhaps the greatest accomplishment of Community is the way it makes the audience care about its characters. Even the gimmick episodes like the Claymation Christmas story and the G.I. Joe tribute were grounded by feelings of abandonment and the fear of getting older. It took a video game-themed episode for Pierce Hawthorne (Chase) to realize that Gilbert Lawson (Giancarlo Esposito) wasn’t his rival — he was family.

Harmon was the showrunner for five out of the six seasons of the show’s run, and those were the periods where the writing allowed the audience to feel empathy for the people at the heart of this show. That’s why the fans have never allowed Community to fully fade away.

Six Seasons and a Movie?

A random line about “six seasons and a movie” in Community season 2 became a rallying call for the show’s fans. That drive helped the series to make it through five seasons on NBC and one final season on Yahoo. Fans haven’t stopped asking for a TV film either, and a Community movie has been ordered by Peacock.

As noted above, getting the cast free at the same time to actually make the movie has been a challenge that currently remains unsolved. But as long as the cast members want to reunite for a movie, there’s still a chance that Community may live again.
