Kelly Ripa has earned a reputation for sharing sweet family photos on Christmas each year — but her kids are certified Grinches when it comes to keeping the tradition.
“I’ve got to tell you, I tried to post a family carousel on Instagram on Christmas,” Ripa, 55, told Bronwyn Newport on Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy Tuesday, February 3. “I stopped talking to my kids for about four hours on Christmas because of the fighting and the arguing over, ‘You can’t use that picture of me. Well, you can’t use that picture of me.’”
Ripa added, “I was like, ‘Guys, it’s just a picture of us at church. It’s not that deep. We’re just in front of the Christmas tree at church.’” (The Live With Kelly & Mark host shares kids Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22, with husband Mark Consuelos.)
The confession came just a few months after the couple decided to cut their kids out of their 2025 family Christmas card entirely.
“We’re tired of getting all the photos approved by our kids every year,” Consuelos, 54, told People in December 2025. “They’re out.”
Ripa said the kids felt “slighted” by the decision, but she was “tired of waiting around” for them to approve photos. For their 2025 holiday card, the talk show duo instead decided to use a picture from when the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders visited Live. That particular photo stuck out to Ripa because of Consuelos’ thrilled facial expression.
“We took a picture on the set with the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, and Mark is in the middle and we’re all in our special outfits,” Ripa explained. “And Mark just has a look on his face that is like … he’s so excited and happy. He’s the happiest I’ve ever seen him in a Christmas card.”
Fans may remember Ripa and Consuelos pulled a similar stunt in years past when their Christmas card featured a photo of the actor with his Riverdale family in 2018. (Consuelos portrayed the character Hiram Lodge on the hit CW show alongside onscreen daughter Camila Mendes and onscreen wife Marisol Nichols from 2017 to 2023.)
Perhaps one of Ripa and Consuelos’ most famous Christmas cards was in 2023 when they wore swimsuit bottoms and matching Santa Claus T-shirts that read, “Big Nick Energy.” Ripa finished her look with a sequined Santa hat.
The photo seemed to divide the internet at the time, as fans on social media debated Ripa’s pantsless look.
“Kelly forgot to put on pants,” one person wrote in a comment underneath the post via Instagram, while a second person asked, “Why is she in her underwear?” Others defended Ripa, writing, “People!!!! It’s a swimsuit!!!’ Can’t you see the cabana in the background!!! and if it was underwear, it’s her Insta, she can post what she wants!! Good grief.”
Ripa seemingly poked fun at the swimsuit controversy, subsequently sharing a bathing suit photo from a vacation with Consuelos featuring the caption, “Greetings from Captains Underpants (One last swim).”
