Lauren Sánchez Bezos commanded attention on the red carpet at the 2026 Met Gala.
The former journalist, 56, attended the Monday, May 4, event at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. For the “Costume Art” themed event, Sánchez showed off her figure in a curve-hugging navy blue dress featuring a plunging neckline and an elegant train. Her classy dress was finished with off-the-shoulder pearl straps. She accessorized with diamond earrings.
Lauren and her husband Jeff Bezos are the lead sponsors and honorary cochairs of the 2026 Met Gala. Ahead of the annual fundraiser, the couple faced backlash for their involvement.
Some critics claimed their sponsorship role represented a shift toward billionaires’ increasing influence on cultural institutions or, more specifically, was an attempt by the pair to buy their way into elite fashion circles. Others reasoned that the money could have been allocated to more pressing causes.
In the past, the Met Gala has been sponsored by luxury fashion brands and even major tech companies. Amazon notably supported the 2012 event, with Jeff, 62 taking on the role of honorary chair at the time.
Anna Wintour responded to the Bezos sponsorship backlash in November 2025, telling CNN that Lauren is a “great lover of costume and obviously fashion” and a “wonderful asset to the museum and the event.”
“We’re very grateful for her incredible generosity,” Wintour, 76, added, “so we’re thrilled she’s part of the night.”
Despite calls for a boycott of the Met Gala due to Jeff and Lauren’s role as lead sponsors, the event doubled down in February when the duo were announced as honorary cochairs for the 2026 gala.
This year marks Jeff and Lauren’s second Met Gala together after making their debut in 2024. The following year, they missed fashion’s biggest night, reportedly to focus on their then-upcoming nuptials.
Lauren and Jeff tied the knot in Venice, with three days of lavish wedding festivities in June 2025. The star-studded affair was highlighted on the digital cover of Vogue, further emphasizing the newlyweds’ ties to Wintour and her influential brand.
In the profile, Lauren gushed over her connection with Jeff, sharing how he transformed her life.
“I went into a lot of therapy and it’s changed me in a bunch of ways. But it’s really Jeff,” she said. “Jeff hasn’t changed me. Jeff has revealed me. I feel safe. I feel seen. He lets me be me. Like I said about Sophia Loren being unapologetically free, he lets me be unapologetically free.”
The pair have seven kids in their blended family. Jeff shares four children with ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, while Lauren is the mother of a son with ex-boyfriend Tony Gonzalez as well as a son and a daughter with ex-husband Patrick Whitesell.
“I would have another one tomorrow. Tomorrow,” Lauren told The New York Times in April of the possibility of expanding her family with Jeff. “I would have a baby tomorrow.”
The outlet mentioned Lauren’s “coy smile” when making the comment, though a spokesperson clarified to The New York Times that she was not having a baby.
