For Michael Cyril Creigton, the idea of an Only Murders in the Building spinoff starring Howard Morris is an immediate yes.

“I already have it all written out in my head,” Creighton, 46, exclusively told Us Weekly of his hypothetical plans for another show. “He’s traveling around country to country with his dog and he’s selling mysteries. Maybe every now and then the trio comes in for a little guest star.”

While initially envisioning that the spinoff would be animated, Creighton noted that if Howard is traveling around the globe he’d “like to do that,” too.

“Let’s just keep those fingers crossed for years to come,” he quipped.

Yes, Michael Cyril Creighton has seen that viral fan theory about his Only Murders in the Building character — and he has the perfect response. Fans have wondered whether Creighton, 46 — who portrays Howard in the beloved Hulu show — could be the series’ overarching antagonist behind certain unexplainable incidents (think: who poisoned Oliver’s […]

Just like seasons past, sweater-wearing, pet-loving Howard is working alongside trio Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Charles Haden-Savage (Steve Martin) as they investigate a new murder in their Arconia building located in New York City. This time, the season 5 deceased is beloved doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca).

While the jury is still out on the identity of the latest killer, Creighton admitted that he suspects his character “every single season” — but he hasn’t been the murderer (at least not yet!)

“I’ll play two different angles in a scene so that it’s open, we can have options as far as if Howard is nefarious or not. I always suspect myself because I’m an actor. Everything is centered around me. And I’m like, ‘What if the entire season is about me? What if I’m behind it all?’” Creighton joked to Us. “So that is in my head sometimes, but I’ll never know until I know.”

When cocreator John Hoffman acknowledged in 2022 that there were some plot holes (who poisoned Oliver’s dog? who wrote the letter on Jan’s door?) and a potential “Moriarty situation,” many fans pointed to Howard being an overarching antagonist in the series. The theory, however, has one major problem in Creighton’s mind.

It wasn’t Only Murders in the Building’s lucky night at the 2025 Emmy Awards. The Hulu series was nominated for two categories ahead of the Sunday, September 14, event held at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater, receiving a nod for Outstanding Comedy Series alongside Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Nobody Wants This, Shrinking, The Studio and What We […]

“The only thing I will say that I can 1,000 percent guarantee Howard did not do is poison a dog, because I would never let it happen,” Creighton shared. “There’s no way that man did it. That would be such a betrayal of the character. So, I hope that’s not the case.”

Despite Creighton wanting to be kept in the dark about his character’s potential nefarious ways (“If that’s the case, I won’t know until someone sits me down and is like, ‘You’re the one. You’re behind it all,’” Creighton said), he revealed that the cast sometimes can’t resist swapping ideas with other people on set.

“There are certain crew members that you trade theories and you’re like, ‘I think it’s this person because of such and such.’ That’s always sort of fun. It’s more like a game of theorizing and guessing, but most people generally know,” Creighton shared. “A lot of us don’t want to know who it is until that script comes out. But my eyes are always open. I’m always watching how people are acting on set to see if they’re acting suspicious when the cameras are off.”

Only Murders in the Building airs new episodes Tuesdays on Hulu.
