The Way Home has become one of Hallmark Channel’s most acclaimed original dramas in years, and now Netflix subscribers will finally have the chance to catch up.

The series, which blends a moody family saga with magical realism and time travel, stars Andie MacDowell, Chyler Leigh and rising talent Sadie Laflamme-Snow.

Seasons 1 and 2 will both be available to stream on Netflix starting in October 2025, making this the perfect time to jump into the pond.

Here are four reasons the Watch With Us team recommends The Way Home.

‘The Way Home’ Is an Inventive Time Travel Story

The Way Home follows three women of different generations from the same family — matriarch Delilah Landry (MacDowell), her estranged daughter Katherine “Kat” Landry (Leigh) and Kat’s rebellious teen daughter Alice “Ali” Dhawan (Laflamme-Snow). After Kat’s marriage crumbles and Ali gets kicked out of school, Kat brings her daughter to stay with Del on the family’s small farm in Port Haven, Canada. But a magical twist awaits — Ali falls into a pond that lets certain characters travel between decades.

When Ali travels to the past and befriends the teenage version of her mother, she begins to understand the mysterious circumstances that broke apart their family — and to uncover secrets that are decades or even centuries in the making.

Hallmark has always told heartwarming, family-friendly stories. The network is probably best known for its movies, but did you know they have some great TV series as well? Thank You! While time travel is the engine of the show, the focus is much more on emotional drama and intergenerational dynamics than on any sci-fi mechanics — giving the whole series a magical realism energy that enchants the viewer.

The Cast Features Stars From Past and Present

In keeping with the time travel theme, The Way Home stars 1980s movie icon Andie MacDowell, 2010s Grey’s Anatomy and Supergirl star Chyler Leigh and newcomer Sadie Laflamme-Snow. The three generations of women also represent three generations of actresses, bringing their diverse knowledge and emotional experiences to their roles.

MacDowell gives Del gravitas from her decades of dramatic and romantic roles, along with humor from her comedic experience. Leigh was one of the best parts of Supergirl, often grounding the story with the depth of her emotional scenes with Melissa Benoist, and she brings that same strength and vulnerability to Kat. Laflamme-Snow delivers a breakout performance that anchors the show’s younger perspective.

‘The Way Home’ Is Moodier Than Your Average Hallmark Show

Hallmark is often known for cozy, formulaic productions, but The Way Home pushes the envelope with darker, more cinematic visuals. Every time the show jumps time periods, it effectively shifts the costuming and aesthetics — whether it’s an eerie witch hunt through the woods in the 1800s or a warm family dinner in the 1990s.

The moody aesthetic makes the series feel closer to high-budget Netflix or Hulu dramas than traditional Hallmark fare.

For Hallmark Fans Who Subscribe to Netflix, It’s a Good Investment

If you’re a Hallmark lover, you probably already know that most of the network’s content is exclusive to Hallmark+. The Way Home‘s inclusion on Netflix is an experiment of sorts, so if you’d like to see Netflix add more Hallmark content to the platform, binge the first two seasons of The Way Home in October — the third season is expected to arrive on Netflix in February 2026 — is a way to signal your interest. It’s also a great chance for viewers who don’t subscribe to Hallmark+ to catch up without a new subscription.
