Everyone knows Dracula’s story: a weird old vampire falls in love with another dude’s girl, tries to kill that dude while wooing his worried lover, and kills a lot of people in the process.
OK, maybe Bram Stoker’s original novel was a little bit more complicated than that, but you get my point — Dracula’s plot is almost as universal as Hamlet’s at this point and far more entertaining. (Sorry, Shakespeare nerds.)
Over the years, there have been plenty of memorable film adaptations, most notably Francis Ford Coppola’s Gothic romantic 1992 film starring Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder, but none have been quite as striking as director Luc Besson’s.
The controversial French filmmaker released his own take on the Dracula legend in 2025, and it left critics and audiences around the world bewitched, bothered and a little bewildered.
At long last, Dracula is now available to stream at home, and horror fans can treat themselves to a bloody good time.

What Is ‘Dracula’ About?
Beyond the broad outlines of what almost everyone already knows about the classic tale, here’s the official plot synopsis for Dracula:
When a 15th-century prince (Jones) witnesses the brutal murder of his wife (Bleu), he renounces God and damns heaven itself. Cursed with eternal life, he is reborn as Dracula, an immortal warlord who defies fate in a blood-soaked crusade to wrench his lost love back from death, no matter the cost. On the verge of reuniting, Dracula is hunted by a relentless priest (Waltz), sworn to end his immortal reign.
Should You Watch ‘Dracula’?
Yes, but beware — the response has been divisive. Dracula currently holds a 54 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, which technically makes it “rotten,” but most of the reviewers either really like it or think it’s unnecessary. If you’re a fan of vampire flicks, especially ones with Dracula in the lead, you’ll probably like this version. It’s most similar to Coppola’s ‘92 version than any other due to its focus on Dracula and Mina’s doomed love story.
Jones is an atypical choice to play the legendary bloodsucker, but his oddball casting works in Besson’s unusual interpretation of Stoker’s story. The film also boasts a fantastic Danny Elfman score, which showcases the Edward Scissorhands and Batman composer at his most baroquely romantic.
