Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County star Jen Affleck insisted that her marriage to husband Zac Affleck was “stronger than ever” just over a year before she filed for divorce.
“[Our marriage is] night and day difference at this point,” Jen, 27, exclusively told Us in April 2025. “Every single day we tell each other. We’re like, if we can get through this, we can get through anything.”
At the time, Jen had recently returned to filming Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 2 after taking an extended break to focus on her mental health. Viewers had previously seen Jen struggling with both prenatal and postpartum depression as well as facing a rocky patch in her marriage.
The Hulu reality star explained to Us in 2025 that she felt it was crucial for her and Zac, 30, to come back to Mormon Wives to “really just share [their] story” as a couple.
“I thought it was important to share a bit of the aftermath because that was kind of the reality of what was going on, and there was a lot that we were trying to navigate, but I also wanted to show that it’s just the reality of marriage sometimes,” Jen said.”Sometimes you go through a rough patch and for some people it’s the end and it ends with divorce and for other people they fight through it and it ends up being a blessing in disguise.”
She continued, “I was in a tough situation, but you know what? Even though season two is really tough for me, I’m excited for people to see the truth and yeah, I feel like there’s a lot to learn from our experience.”
Jen reportedly filed for divorce from Zac on Tuesday, November 3, in a Utah court, in addition to submitting a potential parenting plan for the judge to review, per TMZ. Other details from the court filing remain private.
Us has reached out to Jen and Zac’s representatives for a comment.
Neither party has publicly addressed their split as of publication, though Zac released a TikTok video on Monday, November 2, showcasing some sweet parenting moments with his and Jen’s three kids. (The Afflecks share daughters Nora, 5, and Penny, 16 months, as well as son Luca, 3. They have a fourth child on the way.)
Following the former couple’s announcement in June that they are expecting another baby, Jen opened up about once again experiencing prenatal depression.
“Prenatal depression came back this pregnancy. Only this time, it came back even heavier,” Jen, shared via Instagram in July. “There were many days during my first trimester where my mind went to some really dark places. It scared me. And if you’ve ever experienced depression, you know how isolating it can feel. Add moving to a new state, being pregnant, and trying to show up for your kids, and some days felt impossible.”
Jen thanked loved ones for checking on her throughout her pregnancy journey and stressed that she was still “trying to count [her] blessings.”
“I don’t believe depression is beautiful. It’s painful, confusing, and exhausting. But I do believe God can bring beauty from it,” she explained in June. “It has made me ask deeper questions. It has made me slow down. It has reminded me what really matters. It has taught me that strength sometimes looks like asking for help instead of pretending you’re OK.”
She added, “If sharing my story helps even one person feel less alone, then every vulnerable conversation has been worth it. If you’re quietly fighting a battle no one else can see, I’m so glad you’re still here.”
Fans will likely see some of the drama leading up to Jen and Zac’s split as part of the upcoming spinoff The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County, premiering on Hulu Thursday, November 12.
