Online retailer Shein has abruptly removed a controversial advertisement featuring what appears to be the unmistakable face of suspected UnitedHealthcare CEO shooter Luigi Mangione.

The viral ad showed someone who looks strikingly similar to Mangione, 27, flashing a smile while modeling a men’s floral button-down spring/summer shirt. The shirt was reportedly priced at $11.69 and nearly sold out, despite there being only one size available on the website.

“The image in question was provided by a third-party vendor and was removed immediately upon discovery. We have stringent standards for all listings on our platform,” the company told TMZ in a statement on Wednesday, September 5, after the posting gained traction online. “We are conducting a thorough investigation, strengthening our monitoring processes, and will take appropriate action against the vendor in line with our policies.”

Many social media users have speculated the image of Mangione’s likeness was created using artificial intelligence (AI) considering he has been behind bars since December 2024.

Mangione is currently in jail at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, awaiting trial for the murder of Brian Thompson in New York City. The Ivy League graduate faces four federal charges and 11 state charges, including murder, terrorism and stalking.

Federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

As Us Weekly previously reported, Mangione has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
