Donnie Wahlberg‘s move from Blue Bloods to Boston Blue comes with a new onscreen partner — but what is there to know about Sonequa Martin-Green and her character, Lena?

After a decade on CBS, Blue Bloods wrapped up in 2024. The network didn’t take long to return to the fictional TV universe by centering Wahlberg’s character, Danny, in a spinoff. The actor previously teased what he would like to see for Danny in this chapter of his career.

“I would say I would have Danny Reagan walk right into his next chapter of his life, maybe in a different place doing a similar job and perhaps with someone from the current cast,” Wahlberg told Entertainment Weekly in December 2024. “But I want him to not be too far from the family so that he could still see them and spend time with them, but maybe to see what life has in store for him now that his boys have gone off and he’s empty nesting and his wife’s gone. Maybe he can see what the future holds for him on his own. As long as he can visit the family sometimes. Does that sound like a tease for a spinoff?”

Martin-Green was subsequently announced as Wahlberg’s costar and partner. (Danny was previously partnered up with Marisa Ramirez‘s Maria on Blue Bloods.)

“We love the Reagans. We have all loved the Reagans for so long,” Martin-Green said in a statement after joining the show in May 2025. “And I feel that we’ll love [Lena’s family] too. I’m super excited for this partnership, and to be back in a CBS family — and in this family, your family. It means a lot, and I’m grateful for it. I think we’re going to have a good time.”

But moving forward, I want to do everything. I don’t want to pinpoint a certain genre.”
