An historic ocean liner-turned-hotel on the Southern California coast is the perfect place for ghost hunters looking for a good scare this Halloween.
The Queen Mary, which is permanently moored in Long Beach, has been nominated by experts and voted on by readers as one of the spookiest places to stay.
The liner — which first launched in 1934 — made USA Today’s 2026 list of the 10 Best Haunted Hotels in America.
Guests in the mood for a fright can take part in the Queen Mary’s nightly “Paranormal Ship Walk” to learn all about the ghostly guests continuing to haunt the ship. The walk is offered daily and lasts two hours.
“Embark on Paranormal Ship Walk and uncover the eerie side of the Queen Mary with an exclusive after-hours experience,” a description on the ship’s website read.
“Venture into hidden rooms and compartments rarely accessible to the public, while captivating stories and legends of former passengers are brought to life aboard this iconic ocean liner.”
The vessel’s daily “Haunted Legacy Tour” lets guests explore “the ship’s most haunted areas,” complete with unexplained sounds and shadowy figures, according to the website.
There’s also an hour-long “Graveyard” tour on Fridays and Saturdays, where guests can visit all the places passengers perished.
“In this tour, you’ll discover some of the most famous and notorious stories of the paranormal residents who now call the legendary ship home,” according to the website.
The 1,000-foot-long Queen Mary was considered the most technologically advanced and luxurious ship of its time.
Beyond the ghostly experiences on board, the liner is a floating museum featuring stunning Art Deco-style cabins and amenities.
