A furious pet lover has accused a dog owner of “animal abuse” for walking her German Shepherd across a steaming hot parking lot as Southern California sweltered through a heatwave
In a video filmed outside TJ Maxx in the San Gabriel Valley city of San Dimas, an older blonde woman calls out a younger brunette for “animal abuse” for walking her dog across asphalt she claimed was close to 150 degrees, TMZ reported.
“It’s 101 out right now and this lady is walking her dog and the concrete is 145 right now,” the blonde woman exclaimed as she followed the girl with the dog through the parking lot.
“And the asphalt is 160. It is 101 outside. The concrete is 145.”
“Her dog is walking on this hot, very hot, concrete. I want the social media to see this is animal abuse,” she added.
The blond woman said the pup’s paws were “burning”, claiming it’s “155 on this concrete.”
At one point in the video, the dog does appear to lift its paws once the young woman stops walking.
Witnesses told the outlet the young brunette hit back at the woman calling her an “old, white Karen” and threatened to call the cops.
They also said the woman encouraged her to do so, insisting she was abusing her dog, while she claimed the dog was fine.
Police were reportedly not called in the end.
An alert posted on social media this week from the LA County Department of Animal Care and Control, officials warned dogs shouldn’t be walked on hot pavements in the middle of the day.
“Help keep your pets safe: Provide plenty of fresh, cool water. Keep pets indoors or in a cool, shaded area during peak heat,” it read.
“Never leave pets in a parked vehicle—it’s illegal and deadly. Avoid hot pavement—walk during cooler morning or evening hours.”
