The family of Alaskan Bush People showcased their unique lifestyle for viewers from 2014 until 2022.
The Discovery Channel docudrama-style reality show followed Billy Brown and Ami Brown as they survived in the remote wilderness of Alaska — and later Washington state — with their seven children, Matt Brown, Joshua “Bam Bam” Brown, Bear Brown, Gabe Brown, Noah Brown, Bird Brown and Rain Brown.
In February 2021, Billy passed away at the age of 68 after suffering a seizure.
“He was our best friend — a wonderful and loving dad, granddad and husband and he will be dearly missed,” Bear shared via Instagram at the time. “He lived his life on his terms, off the grid and off the land and taught us to live like that as well. We plan to honor his legacy going forward, and to continue with his dream.”
Following Billy’s death, the series stopped releasing episodes in 2022. However, the Discovery Channel has yet to cancel it. In March 2025, Bear noted that he and his family are “not filming” their show “right now,” but added that it is “not canceled.”
“The official term for the show is that it is on hiatus,” he explained in an Instagram video, adding that it has been delayed because of Discovery’s “super big merger” a few years ago and they are “still getting their ducks in a row.”
