Dramatic moment ICE agents snare college student in California before friend hides from them on campus

Federal immigration agents arrested a San Diego City College student near campus Tuesday morning and briefly pursued another into school grounds.

Officials said unmarked ICE vehicles stopped a car and arrested the driver, who they believe was a student there, around 9.30am, ABC10 reported.

A second student, who was riding in the vehicle, ran on to the campus. College officials said the agents stopped pursuing the student after realizing they had entered college property.

Video obtained by local station showed the first student being detained. The encounter prompted a response on campus, where students gathered and scrawled messages in chalk on the ground.

San Diego City College said it was providing counseling and legal services to students and employees after the arrest.

The Post has reached out to ICE for further comment. College campuses are not categorically off-limits to federal immigration authorities.

ICE’s current guidance identifies colleges and universities as “sensitive locations,” but the policy does not create an absolute prohibition on enforcement there.

Certain planned enforcement actions at or focused on such locations require additional approval, while exceptions can apply in circumstances including an imminent risk of death, violence or physical harm.

Areas open to the general public are generally treated differently from restricted or nonpublic spaces such as private offices, residence halls and other areas with controlled access.

Entry into a nonpublic area can require authorization or a judicial warrant, depending on the circumstances.

ABC10 reported that the agents on Tuesday stopped their pursuit once they realized the student had reached college property.
