One person was taken to hospital after a major fire broke out at the British army’s Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, England, on Thursday night.

The North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it mobilised multiple crews in response to reports from “on-site personnel” of a blaze within an accommodation block at the barracks.
On arrival, the building was found to be “well alight,” the service said, with additional resources and an aerial ladder deployed to tackle the fire.
The blaze was eventually brought under control, and firefighters had left the scene by around 2:40 am on Friday.
“On-site personnel will keep a watching brief overnight, with additional Fire Investigation due to take place later this morning,” the fire service said. “One person was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation”.
The fire is believed to have started in the “Gaza Barracks,” the home of the Light Dragoons light cavalry regiment.
Local councillor Kevin Foster told British media: “My immediate concern is for the safety and wellbeing of everyone at the camp, including our military personnel, their families and the emergency services responding to the incident.”
“I would like to thank our emergency services for their response and hope that everyone involved is safe,” he added.
The British army’s Infantry Training Centre – where all Infanteers and Royal Armoured Corps troops train – is also based at Catterick, which houses two infantry training battalions.
