An upcoming episode of The Kardashians offers a glimpse at the tension within the family over a tell-all book about Kim Kardashian.
In a preview for the Thursday, November 12, episode of the Hulu show, Kim, 46, mentioned the project, saying, “The one thing I find so interesting in the book …” She got interrupted by Kourtney Kardashian, who asked “what book” she was referring to.
“For the last six years, this guy has been interviewing everyone in our family,” Kim said, to which a visibly upset Kris Jenner responded, “Somebody else to analyze us. Perfect.”
Kim tried to make sense of her mom’s frustration, but they weren’t able to see each other’s perspectives.
“You have just given our rights to our lives away to some stranger,” Jenner, 70, fired back elsewhere in the clip before storming off. “I gotta go.”
Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future, which came out in October, featured rare insight into Kim’s life after author Jonathan Van Meter spent years interviewing her family and loved ones. Van Meter recently revealed that Kim called him “late at night” a few months before the book was released.
Van Meter told The Hollywood Reporter that he was told Kim had “been at Khloé [Kardashian]’s house, where Khloé told her Kris had flipped out on camera while they were filming the show.” The author claimed Kim told him that Kris was yelling, “Why did Kim drag us all into this? Why is my affair from 30 years ago in the book?”
According to Van Meter, Jenner “was fine” a few days after the incident.
“It’s going to be on the show,” he added about how Kim allegedly told Jenner, “All this stuff gets written about us, and then a guy comes along who gets us and wants to explain us. Why wouldn’t you want that?”
He continued: “That’s the closest I got to an answer about why [Kim] did the book.”
While Van Meter didn’t provide more details, Jenner previously addressed her affair with Todd Waterman during her marriage to the late Robert Kardashian.
“I think that I fell into a situation where I thought that the grass was greener somewhere else,” Jenner said during a 2023 episode of The Kardashians. “And I made a huge mistake. That’s, like, my life’s biggest regret.”
Hulu releases new episodes of The Kardashians every Thursday.
